About

I live in Melbourne, Australia and when I first came across a Siamese Fighting Fish in a Pet Shop at a local shopping centre, I was straight away fascinated. It’s colours and ability to live in such a small confined space intrigued me and I nearly went ahead and bought one home there and then.

That was about 3 years ago now and despite occasionally thinking about buying a Siamese Fighting Fish that lived in one of those small containers I never really got around to it until earlier this year. You see I’m not really sure why it took so long to get around to it but looking back now it was probably because in the back of my mind I didn’t really believe that such a beautiful little fish actually preferred to live in such a small container.

Therefore after we bought our first Siamese Fighting Fish I decided to do some research and soon discovered that some of the advice you can get at your local pet shop is quite correct. You see what I discovered is that Siamese Fighting Fish will survive in a small container but they will not flourish. And as we all know there is a distinct difference. So I suppose you could say that this was part of my inspiration for starting this blog.

The other reason probably has more to do with the fact that I quickly got addicted to this hobby of keeping Siamese Fighting Fish and wanted to take the next step and start breeding them. So this is what this blog is about.

It is about my experiences with keeping and breeding Siamese Fighting Fish which is the common name for Betta Fish here in Australia. It is not designed to be definitive and I am not an expert in this field. It is basically a first hand account of what I have learned from keeping and breeding Siamese Fighting Fish. I have tried to include practical experiences and hopefully provide information that isn’t freely available elsewhere on the internet.

I also feel it’s important to not only include  my successes but also my failures as quite often the greatest amount of knowledge can be gained from things that have gone wrong rather things that went to plan. So hopefully others can use this as a resource and learn from things that have worked for me as well as things that haven’t.

The important thing to remember though is it is best to find a way of doing things that work for you, as what works well for one person may not work as well for another. So please take some time to have a look around my blog, I hope you find what you’re looking for and feel free to make a comment or even disagree if you like.

I have found this to be a very interesting and rewarding hobby and I hope it is the same for you as well.

Please enjoy.
