I've had fry go missing when a Mystery snail is present. It's hard to tell though if the snails hunt them down at night or if fry, that just die naturally, are then cleaned up by the snail/s. In large spawns it is natural to lose some fry as it's natures way of ensuring the fittest survive. On one instance I lost about 70% of a spawn in one night. The next day there was no sign of dead fry anywhere. I suspect that there may have been an issue with the water, the fry died and then the snails cleaned up during the night.
To answer your question, I think it's a good idea to add some sort of algae eater though. Whether it's a Bristlenose Catfish or a Mystery Snail. If you haven't got a sponge filter though or some sort of aeration then don't add a Bristlenose. If you add a Snail then removing him at night might be a good idea. Just keep a close eye on what's going on inside the tank.

when i had a pump in my pond and had three batches of frog eggs i wrapped a lot of aquarium sponge around the pump and it acted like a filter and moved the water around without sucking upp all the frog eggs and tadpoles. real simple to make depending on the type of filter

Sounds interesting. The mother of pearl colouration might be what is known as a opaque and with the added red and purple may mean he is a marble. You may find the colouration/patterm may change/vary over time as this is typical with marbles.
